Andorra’s History

Andorra began as part of the Roxborough Township the majority of the neighborhood was farmland in the beginning with a handful of mills located near Wissahickon Creek. Even in the earliest days, the area was inviting to settlers looking for a quiet area just a bit removed from the big city.

In the 1880s the land was a site of two large estates owned by Henry H. Houston and later left to his son Sam who made several attempts to sell off portions of the estates. In the late 1940s, the land was finally planned for the development of 5,000 single-family homes to be named Cathedral Hills which was later renamed Andorra after a small country across the world tucked between Spain and France that has a similar appearance.
