Location on the Main Line

Wynnewood is a mainline neighborhood of the greater Philadelphia area and probably the easiest to commute into Philadelphia. The main line is the area directly Northwest of the City of Philadelphia with some of the most interesting history in Pennsylvania known for its charming suburban atmosphere and best-rated school districts. But don’t let the word suburban fool you this is no far-removed backwoods area it is very closely located to Philadelphia and full of plenty of amenities and activities in itself. Wynnewood and Main Line History

The community of Wynnewood was established around 1691 and named after Dr. Thomas Wynn who was the famous William Penn‘s physician. He is also known as the first Speaker of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. Wynnewood is of course one of the most notable destinations on the Philadelphia main line.

The main line is called so for its location along the main line of the railroad running through the greater Philadelphia area. The entirety of the main line encompasses 17 different towns with stops along the railroad. These towns are located in Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester counties in Pennsylvania. This railroad was developed to keep Philadelphia on the map as permanent businessmen were creating areas of moving commerce in New York and in Maryland. The prominent and wealthy businessmen in Philadelphia sought to keep Philadelphia an important place in America with the building of the railroad. This railroad began as one of the biggest cargo lines in America and soon became a means for carrying commuters quickly from the suburbs to their jobs in Philadelphia. As such it became one of the most desirable areas to live in Pennsylvania.
